Ron Adams

Ron Adams is Professorial Research Fellow at Victoria University and Adjunct Professor at Edith Cowan University, where he works with PhD students and supervisors across all disciplines. He has taught History at La Trobe University, ANU and University of Melbourne. He went to Tanna, then in the Anglo-French Condominium of the New Hebrides, in the 1970s as one of Greg Dening’s PhD students—and has been returning to and writing about the island ever since. Beginning with his first book In the land of strangers (ANU Press 1984), Ron has been grappling with the challenges of understanding the past in an island where the distinction between past and present is blurred and always changing in line with changing memories.
