Preparing the Church in Australia for the Plenary Council and beyond

There is in this book an abundance of information and insight on our
changing society and Church where the percentage of Sunday Mass-goers
has declined spectacularly, but where the number of Catholics continued
to increase until the last ten years and the provision of Catholic
services in health, education, aged-care, and social welfare has
increased significantly over the last fifty years—often with the help of
government finance.
The need for evangelization and community building are stressed, so that
the “intentional Catholics” can be a leaven in society and pass on the
flame of faith to the next generations. We hope and pray that the
Council does not become just another discussion group, but sponsors
renewal and specific programmes.
